Hi! I’m Dorothy
I am a CPA-turned-UX/UI Designer based in northern Maryland. My mission is to craft delightful and meaningful designs that resonate with users and make a genuine impact.
With a diverse background in accounting and music, I bring a unique blend of analytical rigor and creative passion to my work.
My path to UX/UI Design
After spending a few years in public accounting, I realized that what I was doing was not aligning with where I envisioned myself in the future. I was unsatisfied about the growth opportunities the career provided. Over time, the work that I did became monotonous and repetitive; I felt myself suppressed of creativity and found myself thinking, “Now what?”
In short, I needed a change. Looking back, I’ve always loved beautiful things and creating beautiful things; the latter, especially, has always brought me so much joy. I remember as a teen I would create comics based on books I’ve read (my first short comic was based on The Odyssey) and write music arrangements for my friends and I to play.
I longed for a role that seamlessly blends practicality with creativity, and I wish to tackle new challenges with fresh perspectives. To me, UX/UI Design is the perfect sweet spot—it's where I channel my eye for detail, get curious about why designs work the way they do, and dive into solving real-world puzzles.
As a designer, my ultimate goal is to merge creativity with functionality, designing products that deeply connect with users, simplify their lives, and bring delight to their everyday experiences.
I am particularly excited about opportunities in the music industry and government. In music, I can draw upon my background and passion to create engaging and immersive experiences. On the other hand, in government, I see the potential to make a positive impact on society by improving accessibility, efficiency, and transparency in public services.
Something else about me
Beyond design, I own and manage a wedding and event music business and teach private violin lessons. When I’m not designing, you can find me playing the violin or the piano, composing arrangements, trying out new foods, and traveling with friends and family.
